EHF, 2020
The EHF, the European Handball Federation, selected us from 27 agencies across 12 European countries to design and manufacture the new trophies for the Champions League Final 4, the European Handball Cup.
According to the EHF, these trophies are destined to change the history of the sport by awarding the same prize to both men and women.
The European Handball Cup is a premier event that was used as a vehicle to transmit a message of commitment to current issues such as gender inequality and climate change.
For the first time, a top-level sport will award the same trophy to the winners of both the men's and women's championships, avoiding any design biases related to masculinity or femininity. Two identical trophies with no formal differences have been proposed.
The idea of the goal as the main objective of the game and the shield as a representation of the essence of team sports are the starting points for the design of the new trophy. A net made of recycled aluminum, receiving the impact of the ball at high speed, forms a paraboloid that serves as a holder for the regulation-sized ball.
A Trophy Full of Values: Handball Champions League
Handball is a tough sport, and the wear and tear of the ball, which becomes unusable after each match, reflects this intensity. This is embodied in the new trophy, as the ball sculpture is made from the recycling of balls used during the competition.
Thus, the European Handball Cup stands at the forefront of contemporary awards, making a clear statement about pressing issues that should not be overlooked, even in a moment of celebration like a prize-giving ceremony. This is the result of a special collaboration where the message and the object come together to create a unique trophy.
For us, it has been a thrilling challenge full of positive values, from conception to production, and of course, the pride of seeing the joy reflected on the winners' faces.
The Most Sustainable Champions League Trophy
As it should be, this trophy was designed and manufactured according to ecodesign and sustainability standards.
The opportunity to see an ecodesign trophy raised in a championship as prestigious as the EHF Champions League Handball was a source of great pride for us.
The message of awareness and commitment to the climate emergency attracted attention from major media outlets like El Mundo Deportivo and Marca.
Thanks to this, sustainable manufacturing and ecodesign took center stage at one of the most important European sporting events of 2020.
